Sailing Instructions (Unofficial French version available here)
1. Rules
1.1. The rules of this tournament may be changed at anytime. In such case, you will be notified of the changes by e-mail.
1.2. The competition will be governed by the `rules` as defined
in Appendix D of the ISAF Racing Rules of Sailing. In most cases the ISAF judge implemented in the game is correct, but please note the following highlighted rules
1.2.1. Rules about room at obstructions like land masses and other boats are not implemented in the game. However, these rules must be strictly followed by all participants.
1.2.2. All races should be sailed in the spirit of fair play. If it's obvious that a penalty awarded to an opponent was wrong, and it's definite that it was your action which caused the penalty then please compensate your opponent with a gentleman's 360 turn.
1.2.3. Please sail the boats in a seamanlike manner. Never luff extremely close to the wind with the spinnaker up. Don't sail aggressively to give the other team a penalty. Use the rules to block your opponents and to make passing lanes for your team mates behind. Penalties should be a result of bad positioning and choices of the opponents. Remember to always give the oposition a possibility to escape.
1.2.4. 360 turns should be performed as soon as possible after a penalty, don't wait for the timer to reach zero, except when the penalty was wrong (see 1.2.2) All penalties from teammates that are the result of contact are concidered wrong. If a skipper takes advatage of delaying the penalty and continues to sail tactically another penalty should be given. Penalies that were obviously wrong shall also be taken, however they can be delayed in accordance with the penalty timer in the game.
1.2.5. All protests should be communicated immediately between the skippers on the water so the protested boat can resolve the protest with a 360 degree penalty turn.
If the opponent does not agree on the water then a protest should be mailed to wtrc2004@itbyc.org.
In addition to the replay, attach a description and any screen shots from the race if available. Please be professional and don't take protest personaly. Protests simply reflecta different understanding of the rules, which are not always easy to understand. We protest each other all the time at ITBYC and we still remain friends...
1.2.6. Beer drinking during races is mandatory. A violation of
this rule will result in an immediate DSQ. Of course the race committee does not have the
capacity to control everybody while racing, but don't be too sure that we
will not knock on just your door when you are racing.
1.3. All races will be run with the Vsk3 ACC boats with 3 skippers on each team making a total of 6 boats in the races.
The winner scores 1 point. 2nd scores 2 points. 3rd scores 3 points. 4th scores 4 points. 5th scores 5 points 6th position scores 6 points. The team with the lowest sum of points wins the race. There are a total of 21 points to race for, so the goal is to have 10 points or less. Winning combinations are: 1-2-any, 1-3-any, 1-4-5, 2-3-4 and 2-3-5.
2. Teams
2.1. The teams are as follows
2.2. The names listed above are the official registrated skippers. The teams are free to use any substitutes they want. These reserves do not have to be announced in advance. There is only one restriction: A skipper (registered or reserve) who has raced can not act as a reserve for another team. But please don't abuse this flexibility. Participate with the original 3 team members unless you really have problems gathering the teams on the water.
3. Race table
3.1. The race table shown on the top of this page, was not drawn, but set up with some constraints. Unless a team goes through as a lucky looser, 2 teams from the same club/country shall meet as late as possible in the cup, but before the final.
3.2. Each series is marked with letters from A to X. The description of future rounds indicates how the championship will be accomplished.
3.3. It is more or less a pure cup format. Once a team has lost, the chances of winning the championship are over. One exception: The best loosing team of round 1 will go through to the winners round 2. Even though this is a cup format, we will arrange more races for the teams that have lost. This is most of all a social tournament to promote team racing, so we want all teams to have a fair share of team races.
3.4. The losers of round 1 are ranked in the following order. Teams losing 2-3 are rated above teams losing 1-3, and above teams losing 0-3. If there is a tie the sum of race the scores will be used to break the tie. If there is still a tie, the best individual results will be compared, then the 2nd best results etc. If there is still a tie a coin will be flipped...
3.5. The winners rounds are the white tables while the losers rounds are they grey tables and below the black line in the race table.
3.6. Series T in round 4 will race for 1st and 2nd positions. Series U for 3rd and 4th. V for 5th and 6th. W for 7th and 8th. X for 9th and 10th. No teams will be rated below 13 of the 14 teams... (there are no losers, we are all lamas!)
4. Schedule of Races
4.1. Round 1 is to be completed by 14th March
4.2. Round 2 is to be completed by 28th March
4.3. Round 3 is to be completed by 11th April
4.4. Round 4 is to be completed by 25th April
4.5. All matches will be the sailed over 5 races, the first team with
3 wins goes through to the next round. The teams may (if they want to) finish the remaining
regattas of the series even if the winner is decided before 5 races are sailed, but these results will be unofficial. The races should still be fun to race...
4.6. The allocated teams (captains) are responsible for arranging and
running of their races. The sooner you race, the better. Contact your team mates and opponents by email as soon as possibly after the opponent is known.
Use the team e-mail addresses listed in the table above. These team e-mails will automatically be forwarded to the 3 skippers in the team.
4.7. Race time for each race shall be announced in the forum as
soon as each team has agreed on the schedule. This way the committe can monitor the progress of the championship. A seperate topic will be opened for
each round.
4.8. The first team listed will host race 1, then alternating
hosts. If one team can not host, or has problems hosting due to connection problems, then it is allowable for one team to host all the races (there should be no host advantage anyway)
4.9. Any unfinished races will be decided by the race committee. The team that has put in the most efforts of sailing the race will go through. If both teams are equal, then we will flip a coin. Teams have 14 days in each round to find a race time so this should not be a problem. Just remember to start communication with each other as soon as possible after knowing the who your next opponent is.

Ex:
Important: If you see a WTRC race in progress in the lobby, do not enter this race as a spectator. Each time a new boat enter the water, the racing skippers will experience lag. Please wait till the races are reported to view results, and use the published replays as spectator arena.
6. Declaration of results
6.1. The captain of the winning team is responsible for filing the results with the race committee. This should be done in the same forum topic where the races are announced and in an e-mail to the race committee: wtrc2004@itbyc.org. The e-mail should also include attachments of the replays of all the races. These will be published for everybody to download in the race table. This way we can have a lot of fun watching the other races, and people new to team racing can learn the genuine tactics. Also save a screen shot of the finishing order for all the races for your own record.
Do not just file the final series results (i.e. 3-1), but also the score in each race (i.e. race C1: red won 10 to 11).
6.2. The results will be summarized at the results table on the top of
this page.
7. Prizes
7.1. First prize: Nadeo offer copies of TrackMania to the winning team. This way we hope that they will spend alot of time with this crazy car game and less with Vsk3, so that it will be easier for the rest of us to beat them in next years WTRC...
7.2. Second prize: Yet to be decided. Feel free to sponsor the event with some small prizes.
7.3. Third prize: Yet to be decided. There may be no prize at this category. Feel free to sponsor the event with some small prizes.
